A Short History
As far as we are aware, Derrick’s Tea
Room has been a Tea room for over 100 years, established in the 18th Century.
The property dates back to the 1500’s and it was originally three stone
masons’ cottages which were knocked into the one building which is the
Tea Room as you see it today. The Tea Room changed name from Derrick’s
in the 1930’s to Lilly Cottage Tea Room before changing back to the
name of Derrick’s and in fact there is a copy of a menu from Lilly Cottage
Tea room displayed in Derrick’s to this day, along with many fascinating
pictures of the Tea Room through the years showing the History of the building.
It was also the original Cheddar Cheese Shop in the Gorge.
We are still gathering history on the building and Tea Room, so if you have
any interesting stories or photos for us we will be only to glad to talk to
you. Meanwhile keep checking as hopefully the history will unfold on the site.
