When Derrick’s Tea Room first opened its doors, it was in the early 1900s. Now, 100 years later it is proudly owned and run by Simon & Bonnie.
Derrick’s Tea Room is nestled in the idyllic Cheddar Gorge, below Lion
Rock, in what was once three stone masons’ cottages and also Cheddar’s
original cheese shop. It also has the only secluded terraced garden in the
Gorge which seats 30 people under a newly fitted covered area which in spring
and summer time is full of glorious flowers and plants.
When first setting foot into the tea room you can feel the history beneath
your feet and whilst taking a deep breath you can smell the wholesome home
cooked food being prepared whilst people around relax and listen to music
of days gone by, surrounded by nostalgic pictures of Derrick’s throughout
the years. If this is not enough, there is the quaint little shop in the Tea
Room which sells amongst other things, a wide selection of chutneys, preserves
and of course takeaway cream tea packs with real homemade scones and clotted
cream.
Whether you are out for breakfast, lunch or dinner or just a coffee and a
slice of delicious homemade cake, you can enjoy all of these and much, much
more with the assurance that you will always be made welcome at Derrick’s
Tea Room.
